San Mateo Campground lies a short distance inland from the 3.5-miles of sandy beaches within San Onofre State Beach. Take Interstate 5, turn off at the Cristianitos exit, go inland 1 mile and San Mateo Camping Area is on the right side of the road on the outer edge of San Clemente 1 mile inland from I-5.
